Dust and Fire

It has been fun picking through the poems and the proses trying to help pick the ones that seem to have been the best written as well as something that makes a person feel.  However there were times when I would be too close to the stories to see if they were well written.  The group I was in was fun, for the most part, but that is person issues with people in general.  I hope to be part of it again next year, since I wish to actually be a publisher after school.

  1. Hmm -- your post intrigues me because you stated that you sometimes felt "too close" to a piece. Do you mean that some pieces were about topics that were close to you or that you could relate to? In some ways, that might make you an ideal reader for those works. What do you think?

  2. Actually there were times when I could relate to what had happened, however the others in my group did not see it and I could tell that while they probably saw the way it was written, I was only focused on what they were saying, there is a line between wanting to protect something because it touches me emotionally, to wanting to protect something because I'm emotional.

In that way I was blind to the flaws that would be more obvious to others who had not been touched as deeply as I was by it.

And just because it moved me doesn't always mean that it was good. And because of that partial blindness I had to certain pieces it made it difficult.
